Welcome to the Office of Institutional Research & Effectiveness (IR&E). The IR&E Office is the official source for all institutional reporting. We act as a resource and information repository for all University related data. Our mission is to efficiently collect, analyze and transform data into useful information to support strategic planning, decision-making and assessment across the University. We strive to provide campus leaders, government agencies, education sector organizations as well as current and future students and alumni with accurate and valuable reports.

Assessment in higher education plays a critical role in determining the quality and success of the education offered.

    The IR&E office is located no the second floor of the Student Union on the McNichols Campus, reports to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and coordinates work with many other offices on campus.

  • Responsibilities

    • Collecting, validating and reporting official data and information for internal and external use. 
      • Internal uses:
        • Program review
        • Census enrollment reporting
        • Retention and graduation rates
      • External uses:
        • Federal and state level reporting
        • U.S. Department of Education
        • Publications used for guidebooks or rankings
    • Assure the accuracy/consistency of data going out of the University by acting as a clearinghouse for questionnaires, surveys and reports from outside constituencies.
    • Assist in maintaining University, College and program-specific accreditations.
    • Ensure compliance in the submission of mandated statistical and evaluative reports for the  (NCAA).
    • Design, conduct surveys and analyze the results to support research, evaluation and growth throughout the university.
    • Work closely with the Center for Career and Professional Development to ensure completion of an outcome survey and evaluate the results.
    • Act as the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) Liaison and provide information and resources to the vice president for Academic Affairs on HLC policy and procedural changes.
    • Serve as head of the Data Standards Committee to ensure integrity and consistency of data collection and reporting.
    • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the My Portal enterprise in conjunction with ITS, the Registrar’s Office and other offices.
  • Information Requests

    The IR&E Office provides institutional data on our website. For information not available on our website, please email the information below to Shelley Wagnon, the director of Institutional Research, at wagnonsm@udmercy.edu.

    The information requested may take from a few days to several weeks to complete, depending on the complexity of the request, the availability of information and the workload of IR&E staff at the time of the request. We ask for at least one month notice for requests but please provide as much notice as possible. You will be contacted to discuss your request in more detail.

      • Please describe in detail the report or data needed for this request. Also provide the semesters or time frame you need. The more detail you provide, the quicker your request will be processed. Please state if this information has ever been completed from the IR&E Office previously.
